Khalaba River Cleanup – A Community United for Water and Life

On World Water Day 2025, the community came together for the Khalaba River Cleanup in Bungoma County, starting from the Jogoo/Mteremko Road bridge. The river told a story — heaps of plastics, diapers, clothes, and all sorts of waste were removed, a stark reminder that our rivers need more than just a cleanup; they need lasting solutions.

The day was a true communal effort, with men, women, and youth coming out to take action. Even local sand harvesters joined in, showing that caring for our environment transcends professions and age. The energy, laughter, and teamwork transformed what could have been just hard work into a celebration of community spirit and care.

A huge shoutout to the Rotaract Club, who partnered with us to amplify the impact of the cleanup. Together, we removed mountains of waste and sparked conversations about sustainable practices, accountability, and respect for natural resources.

At LeadingSpace, we see events like this as more than a one-day activity. They are seeds for long-term change — a bold reminder that water is life, and protecting it is everyone’s responsibility. While we made great progress, the work doesn’t stop here. Lasting solutions and consistent action are needed to keep our rivers clean, vibrant, and life-giving for generations to come.
