In the face of the climate crisis, communities across the globe are rising up to protect the environment for future generations. Yet, too often, the voices of those most affected—our youth, parents, and elders—are left out of the conversation. At Grassroots Climate Talks, we believe that the solutions to climate change can only be found when every generation has a seat at the table. Our project was born out of this belief: to unite people from all walks of life in open, community-led discussions about the future of our planet.
What is Grassroots Climate Talks?
Grassroots Climate Talks is an intergenerational platform designed to foster dialogue on climate change and environmental justice. We aim to bridge the gap between generations, empowering parents, elders, and youth to share their insights, concerns, and solutions to the climate crisis. Through workshops, storytelling, and collaborative action, we bring together diverse voices to explore sustainable solutions that address both local and global environmental challenges.
Our Approach: From Dialogue to Action
Our approach is simple but powerful: start with conversation and end with action. We organize community forums in rural and urban areas where individuals of all ages can express their thoughts on climate change and environmental degradation. These forums aren’t just about raising awareness—they’re about mobilizing communities to take concrete steps in protecting our environment. From tree-planting drives to waste management programs, each discussion culminates in real, impactful actions tailored to the needs of the community.
Why Intergenerational?
We believe that each generation has a unique role to play in climate solutions. Youth are the future, full of innovative ideas and passion. Parents and caregivers hold a vital responsibility to ensure a livable planet for their children. Elders carry the wisdom of lived experience and traditional environmental knowledge. Grassroots Climate Talks creates a space for these generations to learn from each other and collaborate in ways that would otherwise be impossible.
Our Achievements So Far
Since launching, we’ve engaged with hundreds of community members through forums and workshops. We’ve planted over 8,000 trees, held climate awareness campaigns in schools, and worked with local organizations like the Mt. Kenya Network Forum, Laudato Si Movement, Uthabiti Africa, and Digital Fortune Tanzania. These partnerships have helped us grow our reach, bringing our message of environmental stewardship to more communities.
Looking Ahead
Our vision is to scale Grassroots Climate Talks into a national movement that influences policy, educates communities, and drives sustainable action across Kenya. We aim to expand our project into neighboring regions, ensuring that more voices—especially those from marginalized communities—are heard in the fight against climate change.
Together, we can create lasting change. Join us in this intergenerational journey to safeguard our environment for generations to come!
